The style of Korean artist Kim Byungkwan emerges from his sense of dissatisfaction with the habitual, desensitized way that we sometimes view the world around us. By abstracting the form of models and figures from popular culture, Byungkwan disrupts the viewer's perception. Through this deconstruction of form, it is the artist's hope that viewers will reconstruct the way they perceive the media their everyday encounters with various media.
Kim Byungkwan's work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions across the globe, including at Jankossen Contemporary in New York City, PROGR in Bern, Switzerland, and most recently, Salon Artertain in Seoul, Korea. Gallery181 was pleased to present Mr. Byungkwan's work for the first time in Canada, as part of our exhibition HUMANS, from April 19th-May 19th, 2018.
